Andy:
I’m really pleased to have brought Ben Fuller in as our MLS expert.
I’ve been wanting to expand our offering into the MLS for a while, and with the ever increasing link between the MLS and the UK market, as Ben discusses below, there has never been a better time to start getting these bulletins.
At the moment the MLS is operating a summer season, but that changes next year, so I can only envisage the unison between the MLS and EFL especially, to grow over the coming years.
It is such a good market because of the obvious cultural similarities between the countries, which negates a lot of the risk with foreign transfers. There is also enough physicality in the league to give the players a chance to adjust to the UK style.
Also, because the MLS is a Band 3 league, it is possible to get a player through domestic minutes alone. It would take 80% of available minutes to get the 15 GBE points, but it is possible. Any international, or any players who get to the final four of the CONCACAF Champions League are highly likely to get the GBE points required.
Even for those who don’t get the 15 points, they will almost certainly be eligible for an ESC slot, as long as they are young enough.
Ben will be giving us guidance on which of the players in this 30-team league are worth watching.
I hope you enjoy this addition to the content. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
