Slovenia PrvaLiga: The most accessible league for UK leagues to recruit from?
New writer, and Slovenian scout, Nejc Razem, talks us through some of the talent in the Band 5 league
Andy Watson:
I have long been pushing the Slovenian PrvaLiga as a fertile league for recruitment for the UK leagues. It is the lowest ranked Band 1-5 league from a UEFA coefficient perspective, and in the bottom five in terms of the Opta Analyst league strength rankings.
Importantly, it is also one of the lowest paid leagues in the Band 1-5, which means that the players should be attainable for League One and League Two clubs, whilst some world stars have also been produced by the league, so Championship and Premier League clubs should also cast an eye for a young star.
And yet, this is one of the least recruited from European leagues. Only Jan Mlakar has been signed directly from the PrvaLiga by Brighton, and his lack of success in the UK probably hasn’t helped either.
If I were running a recruitment department in League One especially then I would be taking special interest in this league in terms of my ESC slots.
