The 2026 K League 1 season arrives with a shifting landscape. Several high-profile names have departed over the winter, including Jesse Lingard and long-time league icon Cesinha, leaving space for new stars to emerge.
That change creates opportunity across the division. Several clubs have rebuilt their squads, others are attempting to maintain momentum, and the balance of power feels slightly more open than in recent years. The announced growth of the league to 14 teams in the 2027 season with potentially only one team other than Gimcheon Sangmu, who have been automatically relegated after their planned relocation, going down. That could create a more progressive and attacking league than has often been the case. With that in mind, the 12 teams heading into the 2026 campaign can broadly be grouped into three tiers.
