Leaving GBE soon: Last chance to buy (or loan?) some UEFA Champions League club players
As part of our look into the UEFA tournaments this week we begin with a way of looking to buy 15pt GBE players out of unusual clubs
When NK Celje began their Champins League campaign against Flora of Tallinn on the 10th July 2024, there would have been no way of knowing that they would end up reaching the UEFA Conference League Quarter-finals. It is the furthest that a Slovenian team has ever progressed in UEFA competition, and, given Slovenia’s Band 5 status in the GBE rules, means that a lot of that Celje squad have a high number of GBE points.
Djurgardens IF got even further, to the Europa League semi-finals, losing out to Chelsea. Again, representing a Band 5 league. Bodo/Glimt are Band 5 as well, but reached the same stage of the same competition.
The continental competitions of UEFA and the CONMEBOL regions are less scouted avenues to find players who could qualify for a GBE. There is an open goal here for potential ESC players as well, which we will come onto in an article next week.
