Money is always tight, and every pound spent counts.

To be successful on the pitch in League One, especially if you are a club with a budget that isn’t as big as your competitors, then there should be some focus on how well you can manage the resources to getting everything pointing in the same direction.

Free agents are a massive market for League One. This time of year we see retained lists go out across the game, and all of those released players will be looking for new clubs, and many clubs will look to those lists to look for potential to add to their own squads.

The problem is, as we all know, is that it becomes a budget race. For any player who someone sees value in, the likelihood is that so do many other competitors, which a) drives the costs up and the value down, and b) means that time is wasted in negotiations.
