GBE Bulletin #14: Completed transfers, L1/L2's domestic focus, South American continental updates & Finland's Veikkausliiga in Focus
These bulletins will become more regular again now that the transfer window is in full swing. Here you will see who is using the regulations, how they are doing it, and what that means.
There is a huge batch to catch up on here, so I will add comment only as and where it highlights something of wider interest.
Premier League
Florian Wirtz - 22 - AM/FW - [Bayer Leverkusen - Liverpool] - £100m - GBE Pass
Martín Zubimendi - 26 - CM - [Real Sociedad - Arsenal] - £60m - GBE Pass
Mathys Tel - 20 - FW - [Bayern Munich - Tottenham] - £30m - GBE Pass (completion of loan option/obligation)
No surprise that the biggest fees paid by the bigger clubs are all GBE Pass players.
Promoted Clubs
Jaka Bijol - 26 - CB - [Udinese - Leeds] - 18m Euro - GBE Pass
Sebastiaan Bornauw - 26 - CB - [Wolfsburg - Leeds] - £5.1m - GBE Pass
Gabriel Gudmundsson - 26 - LB - [Lille - Leeds] - 11.6m Euro - GBE Pass
Leeds United have never used an ESC slot, indeed, we question how many slots Leeds have available because of the lack of minutes that they have given to English Qualified Players (EQP) in the previous season.
No matter though, Leeds’ recruitment has always been of a level that means that the players they sign from non-domestic markets qualify for a straight GBE. This should stand them in good stead for the Premier League, but more needs to be done, especially in the goalkeeping and centre forward areas.
Quilindschy Hartman - 23 - LB - [Feyenoord - Burnley] - 9m Euro - GBE Pass
Signed despite a serious knee injury ruling him out of the first half of last season. Only 700 minutes played in 24/25, but that actually helped his GBE points due to the ‘available minutes’ criteria.
Jacob Bruun Larsen - 26 - WF - [Stuttgart - Burnley] - 4m Euro - GBE Pass
Loum Tchaouna - 21 - WF - [Lazio - Burnley] - 15.15m Euro - GBE Pass
