The final bulletin from within the UK transfer window has a main driver of discussing free agents.
From my time as a fan of the game, through into working in recruitment, free agency has always been a hot topic for discussion around the end of a transfer window.
This is being written on 31st January, with the deadline for this season’s transfer window coming on February 3rd, so we are definitely at the end-game when it comes to getting deals done. This also means that more complicated deals, such as GBE and ESC, start being taken off the table due to the added paperwork and extra people involved in the deal.
One surefire way of taking an interested party off the table is to deal with free agents. With no club to negotiate with, it can make the process a lot more straightforward, and, in addition, there is no deadline to deal with, as free agents can be registered outside of transfer windows.
There are some difficulties to deal with when it comes to free agents who are non-domestic, especially when it comes to GBE, but it is still a market that is definitely worth persuing, even at this time of year.
