The World Cup break, early exit in the Korea Cup, three nil-nils and a three-game winless run have done nothing to impede FC Seoul’s comfortable-looking position at the top of the table. We’ve even seen in-form wideman Jeong Seung-won point to an extra star on his shirt when celebrating a goal. A first title in a decade is looking increasingly likely, especially when you look at those potential title contenders faltering below.
Holders and perennial title contenders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have been most guilty of failing to capitalise on the capital club’s slip-ups since the World Cup break. Four defeats and just two wins in their eight games since the league resumed have seen the fanbase turn on manager Chung Jung-yong, who recently pitted his wits against Premier League outfit Manchester City in the annual K League All-Star match. An early Korea Cup exit, again as holders, this time at home to a third-tier side, has only increased the pressure on the former South Korea U20 head coach.
