Edmilson (1997) - CF - NK Celje (Slovenia, Band 5) - Contract Expiry 2025
A 6'3" striker with 40 appearances this season and UEFA competition experience on a free transfer?
On Monday we released a podcast for professionals with Richard Wilson which highlighted the talent that is available coming through the Balkan leagues. Edmilson isn’t a home grown talent by any stretch of the imagination, but his presence in the Band 5 Slovenian Prva Liga means that he is a legitimate target for any English club.
The fact that he is playing an active role in NK Celje’s remarkable run to the Conference League quarter-finals also means that he is eligible for 11 GBE points, and whilst this isn’t enough for a pass, it is surely enough to help convince the SFA Exceptions Panel of a pass to play in Scotland.
Edmilson is often used as a substitute for Celje, and, given his size and aerial ability he is often a Plan B. It is a role that he seems to perform well in, and his successful penalty in the UEFA Conference League round of 16 proved that he has a degree of composure about him.
However, his impact sub role also means that we need to be cautious around Edmilson’s data.
We asked James Doolan to watch him from a UEFA Conference League match against his own The New Saints to give him an appraisal.
