Early January business, trends of the winter window, and in focus on the Chilean Primera Division: Pro GBE Bulletin #1
Welcome to your first bulletin as part of your pro tier subscription!
The format of this weekly report will vary a lot as we go, but the idea is to update you with the latest GBE/ESC news and inform you of anything of interest.
As we have just begun the January transfer window then the first few weekly bulletins will be focused on that, with a little bit of added info.
You will also get, in January, a more long-form piece similar to the ones that launched the platform. We are aiming to have this available in the second half of the month. Also, by the end of the month, you will receive access to data that I use in some of my work.
Finally, before we launch into the actual content, you will also receive a weekly player report, usually connected to something in the bulletin.
EFL foreign recruitment gathers apace
As the January window was being unlatched and unfrosted for opening, EFL clubs began to announce moves that they had been working away on for the last few weeks and months.
It is, of course, massively beneficial to bring in players as early as possible in a transfer window, but especially in January. The EFL Championship has just passed the halfway mark in terms of matches played, and most of L1 and L2 are just about to hit halfway as well. The longer that it takes to recruit, the less impact that the player has the chance to have, especially when taking into account acclimatising to a new club, and, in the case of what we are interested in here, a whole new country and league style.
Of course, recruiting early is easier said than done. My personal experience in EFL recruitment tells me that there are often a number of dominoes that have to fall before you are able to make the move that you are most confident in.
So, fair play to the following clubs who have identified targets, and been able to get everything in place early to secure them as the window opens.
GBE & ESC Transfers
We aren't just going to list the deals here. Why would we do that when so many other quality publications and websites do that for you. I recommend
for their EFL transfer coverage. What we are going to do here, which you will get nowhere else, is an explanation of how these deals worked from a GBE/ESC perspective. This could then help inform your own practice in future.
