Data on January, the final few GBE deals rounded up, and focus on the K-League - GBE Pro Bulletin #6
Wow. That felt like a really intense window, certainly from a GBE and ESC perspective.
There will be a full round-up of January to come in the middle of the month, with separate pieces on the Scottish game and the women’s game, who certainly have stories to tell as well, but I think there should be time for a quick reflection here too.
We have had the incidents at Norwich with the Matej Jurasek signing, which could potentially have massive implications for transfer dealings in the summer, certainly, it seems to have directly impacted Portsmouth’s signing of Adil Aouchiche this month.
There has been Wycombe using both of their ESC slots in a week, we shall have to see what impact that has moving forwards and if they achieve promotion into the Championship or not.
We have also seen this week, a rinse and repeat situation in League Two, with Grimsby going back to the well, or should that be volcanic spring, in the North Atlantic for the second transfer window running, and Notts County attempting to repeat the trick of signing a striker from Scandinavia in January to potentially replace a starting centre-forward come the summer.
This is all without digging into the numbers to tease out any trends that may have gone under the radar. The main thing that I am wondering as I write this introduction is, how impactful will these January GBE signings be? We don’t have to wait long to find out!
