Albania (Kategoria Superiore) (Band 6)
The title race in the Kategoria Superiore has taken a decisive turn over the past week, with Vllaznia Shkodër relinquishing top spot after a sequence of underwhelming results.
Having previously set the pace, Vllaznia’s recent dip has proven costly. A defeat to AF Elbasani in what was effectively a top of the table clash has shifted the balance of power. Elbasani’s 3–1 victory was not only emphatic in scoreline but significant in context a direct swing in momentum between the two leading sides.
This result followed a prior draw for Vllaznia in a fixture where maximum points would have been expected. In isolation, a single draw is manageable; combined with defeat in a six-pointer, it has instead created separation at the top.
Elbasani now lead the league by two points and, crucially, appear to be building momentum at the most important stage of the season.
From a game-state perspective, Elbasani are currently controlling matches with greater authority, while Vllaznia’s recent outputs suggest a side struggling to maintain earlier-season consistency, particularly in high-leverage moments.
Despite the shift, the margin remains narrow. A two-point gap ensures the title race is still alive, and in a league where volatility is common, a single result can quickly alter the landscape again.
