Argentina lead the way again, but is South America under pressure on the world stage?

The South American sides at the World Cup showed flashes of quality, alongside notable systemic vulnerabilities across the expanded 48-team tournament.

It was Argentina once again who carried the continent’s flag on the world stage, while traditional giants Brazil and Uruguay really struggled to hit their peak form and suffered because of it.

Especially with the gap between confederations getting smaller and smaller, South America really needs to pull their finger out over the next four years if they are going to continue being a brute force on the world stage.
