Harry Spinks returns for his February update on the Portuguese top flight
League leaders? Beaten them mate.
The headline from February has to be that Casa Pia, by beating Porto 2-1 (at odds of 12/1 no less), have opened the title race back up again. This surprise loss for The Dragons was compounded by a last gasp Luis Suarez (28, ST) equaliser for Sporting a week later, when he tapped home a penalty rebound in the 100th minute, preventing Porto extending the current four point gap. That’s now 20 goals in 22 league appearances for the Colombian forward.
Porto have since won back-to-back games 1-0, but are certainly stumbling towards the title at the moment, compared to the procession we seemed to be witnessing earlier in the season. Their loss means that Benfica are now the only unbeaten side in the Primeira Liga, but too many draws means they are still seven points back from the summit.
